Just a thought

Maybe its the weather changing or maybe its because I work in the city, but as I was driving to my office and passing the many homeless holding signs asking for money for food a thought occurred to me.

Wouldn't it be a better of real estate if all the businesses who have lush landscapes that are cared for... shrubs and trees carefully pruned.... lawns expertly mowed.... planted fruit and nut trees? What if the towns and city's that cared for all of the trees switched them with fruit yielding varieties and welcomed everyone share in the harvest?

We pay our towns taxes and maintenance fees, why not share in a harvest? To take it a step further, what if each house had at least one tree that yielded fruits or nuts?

Not only would the family who had the tree benefit, but if the harvest was shared with the neighborhood, you would get to know your neighbor better and build relationships.
Put it on the edge of the yard and welcome anyone who passed by to try the yield.

We complain about people starving in our country but take no steps to help or make a change.
Why not take a small step towards making a difference by helping ourselves, our air quality and community by planting a tree.

News Media Marketing

Marketing techniques have been mastered to the point it is a science.... branding, stylistic approaches, logos, jingles, product placement and I'll even venture to say subliminal messages.

Marketing has been researched and mastered.

Broken down, it really is a simple enough concept...
If you get your message in front of an audience enough times, the message will sink in.
The earlier you provide your message the earlier the message will be adopted.

With that knowledge I have to ask, what is the news media thinking?
Why publish so many negative news articles without an equal amount of uplifting stories.
On CNN the top story is about Obama making his case to attack Syria (killing people).
On Boston.com the breaking news headline is a car bomb in Libya.
On NYTimes, two major articles are a chemical strike and attacking Syria.

In early times centralized religious organizations realized that by educating and preaching themes were the easiest ways to change public thinking. Companies like Nike, Coke and Pepsi mastered the message. So what is the fascination with the news media?

I know when I go on Facebook and youtube some of the top rated postings are cats, pets doing interesting things, and uplifting posts. I would like to hope that people would be interested in similar uplifting stories across the country.

Are we, as a people so fixated on the negative of others to make ourselves feel better? I would like to hope not. We can certainly post about issues of politics and harsh actions in other countries, but they can be presented in other ways.

With messages of hope and humanitarian aid and not just raw violence.

Part II - Energy around Us

As I had mentioned in Part I, there are many different modalities that tap into the energy in and around us.

My first path led me to Reiki. For those of you not familiar with Reiki... Reiki in its simplest form is a universal life force energy that is given to a client through a reiki practitioner. From a healing point of view, it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. During the session a Reiki practitioner "taps into" the life force energy using symbols and passes energy to the client through the practitioners hands using a technique called Laying of Hands. (modified slightly from wikipedia)

As I mentioned, this started me on my path... I felt to disconnected and there were "something" missing. There had to be more... I felt that I was nothing but a conduit being plugged in. Did it work? Yes. But it didnt meet my highest good. To many things were missing.

After sitting with it for a while, I explored Shamanism. Again, in case you are not familiar.... Shamanism is a practice that involves a practitioner reaching altered states of consciousness in order to encounter and interact with the spirit world.A shaman is a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of benevolent and malevolent spirits, who typically enters into a trance state during a ritual, and practices divination and healing. (from wikipedia)

To me, Shamanism was an interesting journey that connected me to a different style of healing than Reiki. My healing sessions became a powerful jouney that was much more focused on past events and emotional turmoils that were not healed. The most important part of my exploring shamanism was that it showed me one aspect of healing that I had been neglecting. Myself.

It is always easier to heal others than to look in a mirror and find the healing within ourselves.

I turned my healings and journeying abilities toward myself, consulted my most trusted condifidant/Truth Seer, and focused inward on myself. My Truth Seer told me that what I was looking for was something that I had forgotten long ago and needed to heal myself and look inward.

After much arguing with myself, I did. I healed, meditated and opened myself to the world around me and saw the interconnections with life around me. The Earth with its trees, deep roots, dirt and stones. The Air blowing and changing the landscape. Fire burning with passion and cleansing everything it touched. Metal with its strength and protective abilities. And our spirit... past, present and futures strands all connected.

As I thought on these, my healings became stronger both on myself and those that I healed. Individually each of these elements were stronger and more powerful than most of my Reiki sessions and when thought of as a whole (I refer to as Source) they were even more encompassing.

Many of you may recognize certain elements as being connected to both Wicca beliefs (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Wood) and thats true. But, it actually dates back further to an Ancient Chinese healing referred to as Five Element Theory which can be referenced as far back as 168BC. The Chinese used the element theory (Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Metal) to explain a wide array of phenomena, from cosmic cycles to the interaction between internal organs, and from the succession of political regimes to the properties of medicinal drugs.

I didn't know much about the Five Element Theory but kept reading and found that the Chinese were on to something. (no kidding, eh?)

Everything is interconnected. The Five Element Theory left off Spirit, but I kept it in my healing sessions because it resonated strongly within me. The more I used the Elements in my healing sessions, the more I felt the connections and how life tied together. Our health, emotions, present and past actions, are all tied together and imprinted on us.

I also began to understand that Reiki, Shamanism, Therapeutic Touch, etc... all tapped into the same energy but due to our perception as the healer and how the energy resonates with us... provided different results. By following certain teachings we draw on what we feet we need or should connect to in order to offer healing.

When I let go of the methods I was taught and reached out with my own energy... I felt the energy that surrounded me and began to realize and important lesson.

We as humans have inherent strengths and weaknesses and often try to mold our healing sessions into what we want them to be. We are taught to use our connections to the world around us and unintentionally put our limitations on what can and can not do.

The Universe, being as kind as it is... provides us just that.

Just for Today

When we are born, the world is full of opportunities, wonder and awe. Somewhere along the way limitations are set on each of us in different ways. You may have heard "Your not talented enough to be an artist" or "You will never be a ballplayer" or even "You will never make a living doing that".

We then start to internalize and say "I'll never be good enough to publish a book" or "I dont have the talent to do....".

The world around us if filled with challenges. If people didnt surpass the limitations set on us, we still believe the world is flat and there wouldn't be fire, airplanes or explorations of other planets.

It's easy to get mired in our own self limitations, fears and the obstacles around us and never try. It is harder to set our limitations aside and motivate ourselves to open ourselves to the opportunities and possibilities that seem like hurdles.

My wife has the gift to find the beauty in everything. The beauty in obstacles, the beauty in all of the many personalities people have and the beauty if every situation no matter the outcome.

I have to take a differnt route and ask you to for one day try the following.

Forget about the yesterdays and the tomorrows and focus on just today.

Just for today set aside doubts, challenges and preconceived notions and open yourself to the possibilities around you.

If it is excercising.... Just for today, carve out 20 minutes.
Tomorrow? Maybe you wont... but Just for Today, find those 20 minutes to exercise.

If it is anger, set it aside for today. Just for today try and stay calm and let go of the angst building in you.

Focus all your energy and internal will to let go of your limitations.

Then when you tomorrow arrives. It will be another Today to try again.

Part I - Energy around us

This will be my first post on my beliefs on the energy surrounding us...

Just over 10 years ago I began my personal journey of "becoming" or "awakening" myself to the possibilities that there is more to life than what I saw or was told existed.

Why did I begin my journey? Through most of my childhood and teenage years my hands were always extremely warm and felt like they were burning and I would also see colors surrounding people. So like any normal person I saw a doctor for my hands and had my eyes checked by an optometrist.

Both tested fine... Hands were warm due to circulation and my eyes were just as bad as they always had been. So I did what most people would do and searched the internet. After spending many hours online I kept coming across a word... Reiki.

I researched a lot about it and after a couple months of scratching my head, I signed up for a multi-day class held by the International Center for Reiki Training and received certification in levels 1 and 2. The classes opened me to a new perception of life but I constantly had an internal battle. Science vs the Unknown. No matter how much I "wanted" to believe, (I should say I thought I believed)... I held myself back.

Finally after several years of dabbling in it but not really committing myself, I opened myself to the idea that there was more than I knew and wanted to learn more. I then discovered that the more I learned the more I wanted to learn. My first efforts were focused on receiving Advanced Reiki Training and I started experiencing a stronger connection in my sessions but became aware that there was so much more. There were missing pieces but I didn't know what they were. I started to crave the need to know more and so I explored Shamanism, reflexology and other healing modalities.

During my desire for knowledge I found that no matter the modality... be it Yoga, acupuncture, reiki, reflexology, shamanism, or any other modality. They all have one thing in common. Energy. I always knew energy was everywhere and the simple scientific explanation was always ... energy cannot be destroyed it just changes its state.

So while I was searching and doing healing sessions, it was easy enough to visualize the energy not flowing and remove the block. The person I was working with would feel better and we were both satisfied with the results but I still knew there was more.

After many discussions with others (including my amazing wife) I opened myself to all of the truths and possibilities I have had over the years and allowed myself to completely and openly follow my journey. The journey led me on to another path which I had never heard of or new existed and had either been forgotten or ignored by many. (I will discuss in a subsequent post) The more I delved into it the more I began to realize how interconnected we are to the life around us.

It seems simple but the truth is so simple and yet so very difficult to put into words. The energy we carry passes through us and interacts with everything around us. People, objects, animals and plants all transmit and have their own impressions. How we interact and relate to the to the world around us is both impacted and impacts the energies surrounding us.

The energy we carry and interact with daily affects our emotions, health and our perceptions and also leaves impressions in and around us. We carry, transmit and receive impressions every moment of the day with our thoughts and action to the world around us. One small example is when individuals walk into the room and getting the shivers because something isn't "right" or why a person starts to feel better when someone walks into a room. We carry and feel what is around us.

Our interactions can be healing or have what we would deem "negative" but it is what we are either willing or calling on ourselves to receive. My wife is fond of saying that the universe gives us what we ask for. It is true. The universe doesn't have negative intent, it is just trying to fulfill your need.

Births and Awakenings

Life and the energy around is an amazing thing.

For all of the chaos in the world there is an equal balance.
Whether it is unrest in the Middle East, financial crises or the violence occurring on a daily basis... there is a counterbalance.

Negativity sells in the news. It is sexy for news services and people that desire something to focus on.

But for every bit of chaos, stress and anxiety being faced, there is a balancing force. There is hope born every day in the form of newborn babies, trees, animals, and the awakening/enlightenment within each of us.

There are the people that heal, support and offer themselves freely.

As a people, we just need to open our arms and be willing to openly accept and appreciate everything and everyone for the gift they are.
